Using Weight Loss Medications?

We can help!

Using weight loss medication for diabetes management and/or weight loss?  It's becoming more and more common every day.  But what a lot of people may not know are the side effects that can come with them, including:

  • Nausea

  • Vomiting

  • Diarrhea

  • Low Blood Sugar

Poor appetite, lack of desire to eat, and GI side effects are common while on these types of medications.  These side effects and lack of appetite can cause your body to become low in nutrients to build muscle, resulting in muscle loss. When you are eating less, your body will not get the correct vitamins and minerals needed to stay healthy and this can cause a vitamin/mineral deficiency. GI symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea can cause issues with dehydration. Dehydration can cause all the above mentioned symptoms to become worse. It can be a viscous cycle.

A dietitian can help minimize side effects while maximizing your daily nutrition.  A dietitian can create a specialized meal plan for you so your body can have the nutrients it needs daily to help prevent muscle loss.   Weight management is a lifelong challenge. You need the basics of nutrition and healthy eating to be successful for the long-term of your health. Make a lifestyle change by working with a dietitian.
